Canapé Art

Canapé Art is the performance of daily routine with a peculiar twist.

A series of task are repeated, extended and submerged in sugar to playfully explore aspects of human behaviour; small pieces of play performed both amongst and in front of its audience, pockets of performance that hopefully trigger a smile

Canapé Art is the second main strand to Levantes’ work and underpins the creative work for stage. Levantes wanted to create a strand of their practice, free from the constraints of more traditional theatre. Without reliance on location, the un divided attention of audience or technical requirements, the aim for Canapé Art is to build something durable that will challenge both audience and performer, which can be performed anywhere, for potentially any length of time.

Cabaret/walk about/ durational work – tailored as needed

“Levantes Dance Company was invited to perform a series of ‘canapés’ for my wedding at the Barbican Centre conservatory in London. I had previously seen their work at The Pit in the Barbican Centre, and was convinced that their unique blend of costume, humour and interactivity would suit my guests. The children loved the costumes and the adults loved the comedy duo snapshots. They provided a wonderful sense of colour, lightness and joy to an equally memorable day!”
